The remaining cables I needed arrived from Hong Kong today, so I have my home lab complete!  Everything is cabled up in IPE standard topology.  I spent some time this afternoon properly labeling all the interfaces, and making sure everything came up OK.  I did run into 1 bad DTC/DTE crossover cable…good thing I had ...]

The General Feeling of the CCDE Practical

Thu, 02 Oct 2008 04:57:44 +0000
If you took Cisco written exams before, prepare to see something unusual. First of all, don’t look down at the “written” test just because it’s a “written” test. Consider the following reason:
1) They are going to run the CCDE test just four times a year
2) Cisco is going to utilize just a few (2-4) ...]

Cat 3550: SMI or EMI Image?

Fri, 26 Sep 2008 23:09:32 +0000
I am having a hard time trying to figure what code I should be running…I got a 3550 to play with.  The blueprint says 12.2 IP Services, but on cisco.com you cannot download any 12.2 IP services IOS images that are EMI.  The latest EMI I can pull is 12.1(22) (c3550-i5k2l2q3-mz.121-22.EA10b.bin).
I can pull 12.2(46) IP ...]

Status Update: 17 - 23 March

Tue, 25 Mar 2008 02:29:27 +0000
I’ll make this update pretty quick as I have already pretty much covered last week’s pro

countdown from 3!

Three more days folks, three more days to my next CCIE R&S lab attempt.

What had I prepared so far? DocCD, some 'basic' scenarios for technologies, DocCD, some workbook scenarios and ...
DocCD.

Why on earth did I have more DocCD as part of my preparation this time? Because that was what I missed last
attempt. I have had several 'cramming' scenario sessions with lack of DocCD attempt to find the solutions. Honestly,
quite a lot of answers tips and guides are available from DocCD.

I just took one attempt and I don't think this is good 'expertise' information on the lab preparation. However,
from various sessions doing some readings either from discussion groups, VoD, etc on exam preparation, a lot of them
keep mentioning the DocCD.

In my last attempt, I tried my best not to open DocCD at all! Why is that??? It would be better to have no DocCD
and knowing from the router's straight away. I was totally wrong! DocCD has been provided purposely for assisting the
configuration tasks. But, it would be nice to access DocCD for anything other than 'ordinary' tasks. Say: VLANs, VTP
config, frame relay, OSPF, BGP, multicast, etc. that is the 'basic' configuration. A slightly more 'advanced'
configuration might also be able to be configuread without looking at DocCD. Anything beyond than that point, only
experienced would be able to provide the answer without looking at the DocCD (and I really mean experienced people).
As for me, those 'more advanced' configuration are not always happenign in my experience. However, I am confident I
could always find it in the DocCD. That is the purpose of the DocCD anyway :)

We'll see what would happen in this next round of attempt. From the last attempt and the evaluation afterwards, I
am just confident I could 'smell' my number already ;)
